Dr Richard Tonner is the driving force behind our clinic. With over 30 years of experience, he is a renowned orthodontic specialist. He brings specialised knowledge, clinical expertise, and leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality orthodontic care to our patients. Not only does he provide expert diagnosis and treatment planning for you with various orthodontic issues, but he oversees and monitors the complete process of orthodontic treatments.

David is a GDC registered Specialist Orthodontist at Clifton Orthodontics. David’s specialist training and continuing education allow him to provide the full range of contemporary tooth straightening options, from tooth coloured fixed braces to Invisalign clear aligners and hidden lingual fixed braces.
David has a caring approach and enjoys formulating the best treatment for each individual patient. He aims to give his patients a confidence-boosting smile they can be proud of.
David graduated as a dentist in 2007 and gathered a wide range of experience working in general dental practice, oral and maxillofacial surgery and the community dental service in the UK and Australia. David then pursued his passion for orthodontics and was selected for orthodontic specialist training in 2012. He completed the 3-year training programme and has practiced orthodontics as a specialist since 2015. David is a member of the British Orthodontic Society and secretary for the Bristol Local Clinical Network for Orthodontics.
David lives in Bristol and loves keeping active with his wife and three young daughters.

Mr Benjamin Burnhams, our Practice Manager is a key figure in our team. He is responsible for overseeing the clinic’s day-to-day operations and all administrative functions, including scheduling, appointment management, and patient records. He supervises and manages our clinic’s staff while providing an excellent patient experience through handling patient inquiries, complaints, and feedback, aiming to resolve issues promptly. Benjamin plays a critical role in safeguarding patient privacy and ensuring that patient information is handled securely and in compliance with relevant laws and regulations. His role is crucial in achieving our dental clinic’s overall success and delivering quality dental care.

Ms Lisa Ray, our Treatment Coordinator is the bridge between our orthodontists and you, our patient. Her primary role is to guide and assist you throughout your treatment journey, ensuring you have a clear understanding of your treatment plans, financial responsibilities, and scheduling. She can help you break down complex treatment plans into understandable terms and discuss the procedures involved, the expected timeline, and any necessary lifestyle adjustments. She can provide detailed information about fees, insurance coverage, payment options, and potential financing arrangements. Lisa is one of your points of contact to voice your concerns or ask questions throughout your treatment. Her effective communication and organizational skills are essential to the overall success of Clifton Orthodontics.

Ms Joanna Jekiel, our Orthodontic Therapist plays a specialised role within our team. She is a trained professional who works closely with our orthodontists to provide assistance with various aspects of orthodontic care. She assists in conducting initial patient assessments and is trained to apply, adjust, and remove orthodontic appliances based on the orthodontist’s treatment plan. She will help monitor your progress by conducting routine check-up appointments, assessing the condition of appliances, and making necessary adjustments. Joanna will address all your concerns, answer your questions, and provide emotional support to help you feel comfortable during your orthodontic journey. She plays a valuable role in helping our orthodontists provide efficient and comprehensive care while ensuring a high level of comfort and satisfaction for you.

Miss Chloe Halliday, Miss Kayley Fowell, Miss Holly Prentice and Miss Alyce Foord, our Orthodontic Nurses contribute significantly to the efficient and effective delivery of orthodontic care. They assist our orthodontists and orthodontic therapist in various aspects of patient care and the smooth operation of our clinic. They prepare you for your appointments by taking your medical history, reviewing treatment plans, and addressing any initial questions or concerns. They may assist in taking impressions of your teeth or intraoral scans, which are crucial for treatment planning and progress monitoring. They also help maintain orthodontic appliances and make any necessary adjustments based on the orthodontist’s or orthodontic therapist’s instructions. They will educate you on proper oral hygiene practices during your orthodontic treatment, emphasizing the importance of brushing, flossing, and maintaining good oral health. Chloe, Kayley, Holly and Alyce will ensure that you are comfortable during the treatment by providing support, explaining each step, and offering reassurance and emotional support when needed.
From September 2024 Chloe will be embarking on training as an Orthodontic Therapist.

Ms Maria Macrae, our Patient Coordinators is essential in creating a smooth and efficient patient experience within our dental clinic. She is responsible for scheduling your appointments and will welcome you to the clinic, assisting you with check-in procedures, while after your appointment she will handle your check-out, provide receipts of your payments, and schedule your follow-up visits. She will ensure that financial matters are handled, and you receive the necessary information and support throughout your dental visits. Maria is your first contact, the person you can ask if you have any questions, concerns, or appointment rescheduling requests. She provides clear and timely communication to ensure you feel well-informed and supported at our clinic.
